At first we would just pick books and read them to him. Now he has books that he wants us to read ALL the time. Goodnight Moon is one of his favorites!! He has some animal touch and feel books that he loves too that we read a lot. Goodnight Moon is one that will never get old.
He is learning the book and all the different things they talk about. So cool to see him learning and remembering things from the book!! We point to things and he says some of the words and he Loves to say, "hush" when we get to the part about the quiet old lady whispering hush. He even puts his finger up to his mouth/nose. It's so cute!
I'm going to write the words to the book and highlight all of the words that he can point out in the book. It amazes me that he knows so much! He will also point to the mouse every page. The mouse moves around the room and he can now tell you where the mouse is every time. At first he struggled finding the mouse but now he knows exactly where he is. Daddy is the one that taught him how to find the mouse on every page. I didn't realize that the mouse moved around until he kept pointing and saying, "mouse" at every page.
Goodnight Moon
By: Margaret Wise Brown
In the great green room
there was a telephone
and a red balloon
and a picture of-
The cow jumping over the moon
And there were three little bears sitting on chairs
And two little kittens
and a pair of mittens
And a little toy house
and a young mouse
And a comb and a brush and a bowl full of mush (points to the lamp/light)
And a quiet old lady who was whispering "hush" (puts his finger to his mouth/nose and says, "hush")
Goodnight room
Goodnight moon
Goodnight cow jumping over the moon
Goodnight light
And the red balloon
Goodnight bears
Goodnight chairs
Goodnight kittens
And goodnight mittens
Goodnight clocks
And goodnight socks
(can point out the telephone and the rabbit)
Goodnight little house
And goodnight mouse
Goodnight comb
And goodnight brush
Goodnight nobody
Goodnight mush
And goodnight to the old lady whispering "hush"
Goodnight stars
Goodnight air
Goodnight noises everywhere.
After reading 2-3 books we hold hands and say prayers. We usually start with his prayer bear that says a prayer.
"Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. The angels watch me through the night, until I wake in the morning light. Amen"
He has to put the bear back by his lamp, that is his job! We then say our own prayers holding hands for most of the time. He always says, "Amen!" And then he wants to always turn out his block night light that I painted for him with his name.
